(30 min CLASS) Imbolc Myths, Meditation, & Spell w/ Erin Anderson-Kipp

MODULE 1: IMBOLC MYTHS, LEGENDS, & CORRESPONDENCE

Imbolc (Feb 1 or 2) brings whispers of spring, new beginnings, and the promise of the sun’s return. Nature is starting to stir, yet in these cold months the hub of activity remains the hearth and the home. Both are ruled by the Celtic goddess Brighid, who finds her mortal counterpart in one of Ireland’s patron saints, Brigid of Kildare. Brighid is a generous deity who embodies the Imbolc qualities of purification, awakening, rites of passage, and care for the young.

MODULE 2: IMBOLC BRIDGE MAGICK MEDITATION

Bridge Magick teaches us how we can hold space for more than one truth without losing sanity, and to communicate / travel between independent states of being without compromising our integrity or inner vision.

Honored as both a pagan deity and a Christian saint, Brig(h)id is a master of Bridge Magick. She shows us multiple facets of the same figure, each revered in her own right. The two representations share between them sacred fire as the source of their power (a.k.a., their "bridge.") Our bridge will be the Soul: Getting acquainted with our Soul through meditation is one way we can reconnect safely to our vitality and the resilience of our Spirit.

This meditation, in other words, was inspired by both Brig(h)ids. It felt a bit as though I had one in each ear, guiding me through the imagery, and it was pure joy to experience it unfolding. I’m honored to share it with you.

MODULE 3: IMBOLC BRIGHID’S MANTLE SPELL

According to pagan legend, Brighid's Mantle was a cloak that conveyed her mystical powers to those who needed protection and healing.

Our Imbolc spell works with this sacred object to call forth healing borne of our own spiritual resiliency. Perform this spell on “February Eve” (January 31). You can also perform it on the evening of February 1. Imbolc falls either on Feb 1 or Feb 2, depending on who you ask! :)

Supplies:

• Single white candle and matches / lighter

• Green cloth, scarf, or shawl large enough to wrap around your shoulders

• Journal or notepad; writing tool

• Hearth / doorstep / balcony on which to leave the mantle overnight

• Quiet place to meditate and reflect for 10-15 minutes (or more, if you like!)

Blessed be!
